Your bridal makeup trial: what to expect and how to prepare

A bridal trial is one of my favourite appointments. It's where we turn a Pinterest board into a look that's really yours, and it means that on the morning of your wedding there are no surprises: just a calm, happy hour of getting ready.
When should I book my trial?
Usually a few months before the wedding, once you've chosen your dress. Some brides like to book it on the same day as a hair trial, a dress fitting or a hen party, so they can see the look in real life.
What to bring
- Photos of your dress, and of any veil, hair accessories or jewellery.
- Inspiration pictures of makeup you love, and anything you know you don't like. Both are equally helpful.
- Your colour scheme and flowers, if you have them.
- A white or neutral top, so we can see how the makeup looks close to the colour of your dress.
How to prepare your skin
Come with clean, moisturised skin and no makeup if you can. Avoid trying new skincare, facials or treatments in the days before your trial (and before your wedding) in case your skin reacts. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, tell me in advance.
What happens at the trial
We start with a chat about your day: the venue, the time of the ceremony, the photographer's style and how you want to feel. Then I create the look, and we adjust it together: a softer lip, more lashes, a little more glow. I take photos so we can both see how it looks on camera.
Then wear it! The best test of bridal makeup is a few hours of real life, so see how it feels, check it in daylight and take some selfies.
On the wedding day
Everything we decided at the trial is noted down, so the wedding-day makeup is calm and on schedule. I come to you, anywhere in London, and stay for touch-ups if you'd like.
